According to a recent report by the Express, Chinese Super League side, Guangzhou Evergrande are in pole position to secure the services of Fulham centre-forward Aleksandar Mitrovic. The striker has also been linked with a move to Everton among many other Premier League clubs. The same source has revealed that the Chinese outfit are willing to match the Cottagers’ valuation of £50m for the Serbian international and are also prepared to offer him a mammoth £300,000 per week in wages.
Massive Blow For The Toffees?
This recent development will be a huge blow for Marco Silva’s chances of landing the player. The Merseyside club cannot afford to match the numbers that Guangzhou Evergrande are willing to cough up for Mitrovic. So there is no doubt that the Toffees would have to look elsewhere in search of a new striker.
The Recent Rise of Mitrovic
Mitrovic has personally enjoyed his best campaign in the Premier League this season even though his current club will be relegated at the end of this campaign. The Serbian frontman has featured in 34 matches for Fulham this term, scoring ten goals while creating two assists in all competitions.
What Makes Mitrovic Such A Potent Weapon?
Mitrovic is a powerhouse up top as he can be a real handful for any defender. The Serbian striker has incredible strength which helps him dominate aerial duels in the attacking third of the pitch. He has also managed to add goals to his game and can be a lethal finisher inside the opposing penalty box. However, the jury is still out on whether he can take his game to the next level and break into the world-class bracket.
What Should Be Marco Silva’s Play Now?
Missing out on Mitrovic will be a bitter pill to swallow for Silva as he could have been a prolific forward at Goodison Park. Everton should now concentrate on recruiting some of their other transfer targets as a move for Mitrovic might be a far-fetched dream for them at the moment.
The Toffees secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Arsenal last weekend in a match where Dominic Calvert-Lewin put in a brilliant performance while leading the line for the home side. So the Everton youngster might ease some of Silva’s goal-scoring concerns in the coming weeks. However, he might not be an ideal solution for the long-run, so the Merseyside outfit are better of signing a fresh face in the summer.
