According to the reports from the Scottish Sun as cited by Bristol Post, Steven Gerrard is unlikely to land Ryan Kent permanently in the summer. The English winger is having a fantastic time at Ibrox as he has really established himself in Glasgow in the last few months.
Gerrard did indicate that he would try everything in his means to get him on another loan deal, but he realises that things aren’t in his hand completely.
What did Gerrard say?
The Rangers manager was quoted as saying, ”I think it would unlikely be a permanent move. The numbers being spoken about, I’m out. I would be more confident about getting him back on a loan. If Liverpool wanted to sell him, that’s out of my hands. We’ll have to wait and see. We have to make sure we have an offer for Ryan.”
”Our supporters need to know I’m doing everything I can to make sure he is here next year. He is definitely one of the people I want to build the team around.”
Reports from Liverpool Echo came out last month that the Merseyside outfit could look to demand more than £12m for Ryan Kent in the summer. With that kind of price tag, Rangers are practically out of the race, and Gerrard too confirmed the same.
What now for Rangers?
This would come as a body blow for all the fans who were wanting to see Kent don the Rangers colours permanently in the next season. We thought that with Gerrard at the helm of the club, Rangers might be able to negotiate a much better price for the English winger but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
The way Kent has performed at Ibrox, one cannot blame Liverpool for putting up a price tag like that. Moreover, his performance in the just gone by derby showed that he could turn up on the big stages as well as he took the game by the scruff of the neck and brought his side back into contention.
Kent has come up leaps and bounds in the last few months, and that has primarily happened because of the amount of playing time he has been getting here. There is doubt in our mind that he will improve further with more minuted under his belt.
The player has himself indicated on numerous occasions that he wants to stay at Ibrox. So maybe Liverpool might once again sanction a loan deal for him given the vast improvement he has shown under Gerrard. As for the permanent move, one can more or less count that out after Gerrard’s recent comments.
