The Whites have added to their tally of 57 points this season with a win over Eibar at the Santiago Bernabeu. The visitors took the lead in the 39th minute with just the one attempt on goal.
Zidane’s men failed to have any shots on goal in the first half but kept Eibar goalie, Dmirtovic busy for the entire duration of the second half with seven shots on goal. Karim Benzema struck twice in the second half with headed goals and caught the Eibar defence napping twice. The injury to Eibar defender, Ramis was a significant blow to them, and things seemed to get out of hands for the visiting side ever since the defender departed from the field of play.
It was not one of the most convincing victories from Real Madrid but the got the job done at the end of the day. The Whites play four derbies in their next four fixtures against Leganes, Atheltic Bilbao, Getafe and Rayo Vallecano. It would be interesting to see Zidane’s starting eleven selection for these fixtures.
Here’s how Real Madrid fared in their 2-1 victory against Eibar.
Navas – 6/10
Did not have much to deal with except the lone shot on goal from Eibar which ended up in the back of the net.
Odriozola – 7/10
Industrious performance from the right back. Was a constant threat down the right flank.
Varane – 7/10
A Varane-esque performance on the night from the Frenchman.
Nacho – 7/10
Good solid performance the centre back. The 29-year-old could have done slightly better for Eibar’s first goal.
Reguilon – 8/10
A fantastic performance from the Spanish full-back. Regulion will give Zidane serious trouble concerning the selection of the starting eleven.
Modric – 7/10
Modric needs to step up his game before the next season gets underway. He seemed a bit sloppy on the ball this afternoon at the Spanish Capital.
Valverde – 8/10
The youngster certainly made a huge statement with a rare start in the league. He was electric throughout the game and always kept the game ticking.
Isco – 8/10
Isco was the centre of the attention throughout the game, no wonder he is a well-recognised face at the Santiago Bernabeu. An assist or goal from the ex-Malaga man would have made his evening even sweeter.
Asensio – 8/10
An energetic performance from Asensio as ge had Eibar goalie, Dmirtovic constantly busy with his shots from around the penalty area. Unfortunately for him, he did not find the back of the net.
Benzema – 9.5/10
Benzema has grown into a more mature striker as the season has progressed. He seems to have taken responsibility of getting this side beyond the line ever since Zidane has returned to the fold. Two match-winning goals from Benzema assured Real Madrid the three points. The Frenchman could have probably scored three more goals.
Bale – 7/10
A somewhat sluggish performance from the Welshman. He did not seem to have the motivation to make an impact on the afternoon.
Substitutes
Toni Kroos – 7/10
Decent performance after coming on for the last quarter of the game or so.
Lucas Vasquez – 8/10
Came on for Gareth Bale and showed some neat footwork in the attacking third. Even made a few threatening runs down the left flank.
Brahim Diaz – 6/10
Did not have much involvement post coming on.
