According to a recent tweet by UOL Esporte, as cited by Football.Oranje, Everton are looking to make a move for Brazilian forward David Neres. The 22-year-old winger currently plies his trade for the Dutch Eredivisie giants Ajax and has played a major role in his side’s success in the domestic circuit as well as European competition.
Neres has taken the football world by storm with his performance in the Champions League encounter against Real Madrid as Ajax steamrolled the former Champions by 4-1 in their own backyard. The young winger kept getting the better of the opposition defenders and notched up the second goal for his side en route to the quarter-final.
The Brazilian is immensely talented and has some insane tricks up his sleeves. He has earned rave reviews from many experts and has been tracked by a number of clubs, Everton being the latest addition to the list.
The Toffees have not been able to capitalise on the decent start they had to their campaign this season and are currently standing at the tenth position in the Premier League table. With a finish at the eighth position looking like a distant dream for Marco Silva’s men, the Portuguese gaffer might start beefing up his squad in the summer.
The Everton forward line has failed to perform as per expectations this season. No one except Richarlison has looked effective in front of the goal. The likes of Bernard and Theo Walcott have not been able to answer to their manager’s call while Ademola Lookman has been restricted to the bench most of the times.
Everton needs a top quality forward, preferably a winger, who would be able to shoulder the goalscoring responsibilities alongside Richarlison apart from threatening the opposition defence down the flanks. Neres is one of the most highly rated attackers in Europe at the current moment and signing him would certainly be an advantage for their attack.
Neres has made 42 appearances in total for Ajax this season and has notched up 11 goals and 14 assists. His inclusion in the Everton side would provide them with an extra edge over the opposition. Silva has seen his forwards fail to make an impact throughout this season and should certainly look to add a player like Neres to his side as a replacement for someone like Walcott or Lookman.
Everton have splashed a lot of cash in the last two summer transfer windows, but that has not given them much of an impetus as most of their summer signings have failed to impress in the English top flight football. As per Neres’ current form, he could be a good investment for the Toffees. However, his inexperience in the Premier League might be a detriment for the Merseyside club as they look to make a move. It is time for the Toffees to take some timely decisions so as to turn their fortunes in the right direction in the league next season.
