Rangers will travel to Fir Park to take on Motherwell on Sunday after securing an impressive win in a midweek game against Hearts. However, Celtic’s grip on the title isn’t loosening so Gerrard will again need to motivate his players to give their best despite their position in the table.
The Well currently sits 8th on the table, and they are coming on the back of a defeat against Aberdeen. However, the in-demand Jake Hastie was once again on the scoresheet for his team. Rangers were strongly linked with him in the past few months, but the latest report adds that the Bears have pulled out of the race. Maybe an impressive performance against Gerrard’s men might change Rangers’ decision once again on the winger.
Team News
Alfredo Morelos is going to be suspended for this clash. Borna Barisic is expected to miss out once again due to injury. Graham Dorrans and Jamie Murphy are long term absentees. Ryan Kent’s appeal wasn’t overturned, and he has been handed a two-match ban.
Rangers predicted lineup Vs Motherwell
Formation (4-4-2)
Gerrard experimented in the midweek game by straying away from his usual formation, and that produced impressive results. Therefore, we expect the former England captain to deploy the same formation in this clash as well.
Defence
Allan McGregor should start in between the sticks once again. Joe Worrall isn’t going to be a Rangers player for the next season so we would like to see the manager giving Nikola Katic a go in the first team. Connor Goldson should partner him in central defence. Andy Halliday is available for selection after serving his one-game ban, and he should be restored in the left back role. James Tavernier produced some delicious crosses down the right, and the captain is expected to play in his usual right-back position.
Midfield
Ryan Jack has done well, but Ross McCrorie can be given a go to start in midfield. He is likely to be partnered by Scott Arfield in central areas. Daniel Candeias was not part of the midweek game so he should be fresh to start from the right in this tie. Glen Kamara is expected to play down the left.
Attack
Ryan Kent was in a flexible role in the final third against Hearts and given his improvement; it made sense for Rangers to use him in central areas. However, with him being suspended, Eros Grezda might be given a chance in a similar role. Jermain Defoe is going to start as the furthest man up front for Rangers.
