Watford have had an impressive season so far in the Premier League, and they are on course to finish in the top half of the table. With a strong finish to the season, they can even manage to squeak into the Europa League qualifiers. There cannot be any doubt that Javi Gracia has done a terrific job since he took over at the club.
Around a week back, reports from Calciomercato came out that the Hornets were interested in signing Bournemouth’s striker Joshua King. The Norwegian forward has been lethal in front of goal for the Cherries and King has formed an impressive partnership with English striker Callum Wilson.
The former Manchester United forward has managed 11 goals this season in 29 appearances in the Premier League, and his form is one of the reasons why the Cherries are going to avoid relegation with relative ease. Therefore it is no surprise that the 27-year-old is drawing attention from other clubs.
Why should Watford go for King?
Gracia is still dependent on his experienced striker Troy Deeney to deliver the results up top. Deeney is soon going to be 31, and there have been occasions when it is clear that the club captain is on a decline. Therefore the club might need a new striker in the upcoming season.
Apart from Deeney, the Spanish manager can call upon the services of Andy Gray. However, it is clear that Gracia doesn’t favour him much as the former Burnley forward has started just a handful of games this season. A signing like King can take Watford to the next level.
How will he fit into Gracia’s system?
King is currently in a purple patch, and he is at the peak of his powers. The Norwegian usually plays as a secondary striker to Callum Wilson. We think that he can form an even more lethal partnership with Troy Deeney up front.
Deeney can use his physicality and holdup play to bring someone like King into the game who can make runs off him. Gracia has instilled an attacking brand of football at the Vicarage Road, and this duo can trouble quite a few defences in the Premier League.
Chances of Watford signing him?
Given the form which King has shown, he might feel that he can move to a bigger club in the summer. Bournemouth and Watford are more or less at the same level, but Watford are looking to take significant strides in the Premier League under their influential Spanish manager. If they manage to get into the Europa League qualifiers, the Hornets would increase their chances of signing the striker.
