In a recent interview with Bild, on-loan Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic has revealed that he wants to make a permanent switch to Hertha Berlin next summer. When asked whether his time with the Bundesliga club will come to an end this summer, the Serbian prospect told Bild (translated by the Daily Mirror), “I hope not! Because I feel very comfortable in Berlin.
“Hertha gave me the great opportunity to play in the Bundesliga.
“I’m still pretty young, for me this time at Hertha – with the exception of injuries – has been brilliant so far to show my qualities.
“Ultimately, it’s not up to me. But if I could choose myself, I would stay with Hertha for another year, or maybe even two years, to make a very good name for myself by improving all my qualities. And that’s only possible if you play in every game.”
The Serbian talent’s recent words indicate that he is enjoying his loan spell at the Olympiastadion Berlin. The fact that he is contemplating spending ‘another year, or maybe even two years’ with the Bundesliga club goes on to show how well his loan move has worked out for him thus far.
There is no doubt that Hertha would benefit from acquiring his services for the long-run. However, as far as Liverpool are concerned, they are better of letting Grujic leave next summer as there are far too many midfield options currently at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal. The Reds boss needs to trim his squad at the end of this campaign to make room for new arrivals during the summer transfer period.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a very fruitful season so far under Pál Dárdai’s tutelage and has put in a few dazzling displays for the German outfit during this campaign. Grujic has made 17 appearances for Hertha this term, scoring three goals while grabbing one assist across all competitions.
The Serbian midfield ace’s departure won’t affect Klopp’s first-team at all. However, Grujic has massive potential and could turn out to be a world-class prospect in the future. Hence, Liverpool should consider including a buy-back clause if they do decide to part ways with Grujic this summer.
Klopp is in dire need of adding some creative midfielders to his squad ahead of the new season, but Grujic does not fit the bill at this moment. Thus, it might be a good move for all parties if the former Red Star Belgrade starlet seals a permanent move to Hertha at the end of this campaign.
