According to the latest reports from Birmingham Live, Leeds United can look to take advantage of Aston Villa winger Albert Adomah’s situation at the club as the 31-year-old is yet to sign a new deal with the Villans. The experienced winger’s contract talk has been put on hold even though the winger has approached the club multiple times regarding a new contract.
This is not the first time that United’s name has been linked with Adomah, and reports also add that Villa turned down two offers from the West Yorkshire outfit in January. Wide areas are one of the positions where the Whites tried to add reinforcement in January, but they failed to pull off any move and ended up with only the signings of Kiko Casilla and Mateusz Bogusz.
Jack Harrison is expected to return to his parent club Manchester City and Pablo Hernandez is going to be 34 soon. Ezgjan Alioksi is much more suited to play as a fullback than a left winger, and it is clear that the club might have to sign as many as two wingers in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Adomah can depart from Villa Park for free in the summer, and we believe quite a few clubs can come after him. However, we think that if Leeds United move to the Premier League, then they need to target much better players than Adomah who is currently on a decline.
It’s true that on his day, the right winger can create havoc as his pace and dribbling skill can be tough to handle. However, to be honest, he seems to be of Championship quality at the moment.
His numbers also showcase the same this season as in 30 appearances in all competitions, Adomah has managed one goal and three assists. The Ghanaian’s figures were far more impressive last season as he scored 14 goals. In the summer of 2018, he looked like a hot prospect with some major Championship clubs interested in him. Adomah helped Villa reached the playoff finals that season but they faltered on the final hurdle.
If the Whites are looking at him as a backup winger then there is a case for him but as a regular starter, we don’t really see Adomah creating a major impact. United’s transfer dealings are likely to be on hold at the moment as their future currently hangs in the balance. If they move up a division, then they should surely look to target better players.
