According to a recent report by Marca, Real Madrid have tracked Liverpool’s Sadio Mane for several months now and are ready to make him their number 1 transfer target for the summer window following Zinedine Zidane’s return to the Spanish capital.
The same source has also revealed that the Galacticos boss considers the Senegalese winger to be an ideal candidate to reinvigorate an under-performing Madrid team next season.
This recent development might worry a lot of Liverpool supporters; however, there are many reasons to be confident that Mane will stay at Anfield beyond this summer. The fact that the Senegalese international recently penned a new long-term deal with the Merseyside giants will only work in Jurgen Klopp’s favour. Mane’s current contract is set to run out in the summer of 2023, so Liverpool will be under no pressure to sell.
The 26-year-old is currently playing the best football of his career having scored 11 goals in his last 11 starts for the Premier League leaders. He is believed to be settled at the club and is playing for a side challenging for two of the biggest honours in club football (unlike Real Madrid).
Furthermore, Mane has also developed a special relationship with the club’s supporters with songs about the player often being echoed around Anfield on match-days. It would take a lot of courage for the Senegalese speedster to put an end to that relationship and move on to a different league.
Mane has scored 20 goals while creating four assists in 38 matches for the Reds this season across all competitions. His incredible goal-scoring run of late has put him well in contention to secure the Premier League’s golden boot. He is currently one goal shy of Sergio Aguero with a total tally of 17 league goals which is also the same number of goals scored by his Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah.
There is no reason for Mane to think that becoming a ‘Galactico’ would be better than staying in Liverpool for the time being. Even if the Reds fail to land any silverware this season, the former Red Bull Salzburg talent should remain at the Merseyside club as switching teams does not always guarantee success and happiness. Just ask Phillipe Coutinho!
