According to the latest reports from the Express, Tottenham Hotspur are going to target Wolves’ in form forward Diogo Jota in the upcoming summer transfer window. The 22-year-old forward has become an integral member of Nuno Santo’s squad, and one can understand why a heavyweight club like Spurs are interested.
The report adds that Pochettino feels that the Portuguese forward is going to be the right man to take some pressure away from Harry Kane. Fernando Llorente is the other back up striker for Spurs, but the Spaniard has struggled to find the back of the net regularly. Also, his contract is also expiring in the summer.
Therefore the Argentine manager needs a striker and Spurs cannot afford to have another dud transfer window. They have now gone without spending a single penny on transfers in the last two windows, and overall, we feel that they have done relatively well without spending much.
However, Spurs need to up the ante if they want to challenge for trophies as Liverpool showed in the summer of 2018. They signed quality players in the last few windows and are now in with a good shout to end their title drought. Spurs too need to follow that route; otherwise, they would just continue winning hearts and not trophies.
Coming to Jota, the 22-year-old is a lethal striker at his best, and we wouldn’t be wrong in saying that he can even form a partnership with Harry Kane. The Portuguese is quick, agile and can dribble out of tight spaces. Apart from that, his finishing in front of goal is also worth mentioning as he now managed seven goals in his last 14 games in the Premier League.
However, any striker who is linked to Spurs is always going to have one significant doubt, and that is the amount of game time that he would receive at the club. With Harry Kane being one of the best strikers in the world, not many strikers would get a chance to start ahead of him. That would always make strikers sceptical about joining Tottenham.
Moreover, Jota is enjoying a good time at the Molineux and Wolves don’t seem to be too far off in the table as they currently occupy the seventh spot. The striker was signed permanently by Wolves in the summer of 2018 from Atletico Madrid, costing £12.6m. Therefore it would take a sizeable offer from the North London club to sign the striker as Wolves would surely want to sell him after just one year.
