According to a recent report by the Sun, Manchester United can secure the services of Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos for £50m during the summer transfer window. The same source has revealed that the Red Devils can finally acquire their long-term target after they failed to bring him to Old Trafford when Los Blancos hijacked their pursuit back in 2014.
Kroos has endured a difficult campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium after a series of underwhelming displays from him so far. He has failed to live up the heights of last season which is one of the many reasons why the Galacticos have struggled this season across all competitions.
One could even argue that the German midfielder is on the decline and so, Zinedine Zidane might be willing to give him up as part of a massive summer overhaul of his squad. The 29-year-old has featured in 36 matches for Madrid this term, scoring just once while creating five assists in multiple competitions.
Despite his lack of form this season, Kroos has a highly successful track record and is a proven talent in midfield. So the Red Devils could benefit from acquiring his services this summer.
Kroos has shown in the past that he can score goals consistently from long-range and is also a good facilitator in midfield. The German midfield general has wonderful vision and can pick out a decisive pass in the final third. Moreover, he knows what it takes to win trophies which is precisely the type of player Ed Woodward needs to look for in the summer transfer market.
The potential acquisition of Kroos will undoubtedly bolster Man United’s midfield options at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solkjaer currently has the likes of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira vying for a midfield berth in his first-team. Except for Pogba, Kroos can be an upgrade over any of the other Man United midfielders due to his goal-threat in the opposition half.
Hence, Woodward should do everything in his power to orchestrate a move for the German international even if he has to pay £50m to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams ahead of the new campaign.
