A recent report by Football.London has claimed that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Boca Juniors winger Cristian Pavón. The same source has also revealed that the Gunners boss Unai Emery is looking to add more width to his side and has identified Pavon as one of the candidates to take up that role in the next campaign.
The North London giants have experienced a rollercoaster of a campaign under Unai Emery this season. They have been quite impressive at times but have also been guilty of being inconsistent far too often during this campaign. The lack of natural width has been a big problem for the Gunners thus far with Alex Iwobi being the only natural winger at the club.
Hence, a player like Pavon could help them turn things around for the better next season as Emery tries to deliver some major silverware in the coming years. The Argentine wide man is currently out of action due to a torn muscle injury, but he has still managed to have a productive campaign at Boca Juniors this term. Pavon has scored three goals and grabbed two assists in 13 appearances in the Primera Division so far.
A move to Europe could the next big step in his career so Arsenal could be an ideal destination for him as he won’t have too much competition for a first-team place at the Emirates Stadium.
Pavon boasts blistering pace and has an incredible turn of speed while dribbling with the ball down the flanks. He is versatile enough to play on either wing which makes him such a valuable asset for Boca Juniors. The 23-year-old can also deliver some inviting crosses from the wide areas and is an accomplished finisher in front of the opposition goal.
The addition of a promising winger like Pavon will undoubtedly bolster Emery’s attacking options at the North London club. He will be an upgrade over any of Arsenal’s current options who play on the right wing and has the X-factor in his game to be a consistent performer in the Premier League.
However, there are some concerns regarding his ability to adapt to the physicality and high intensity of English football. The Gunners have already witnessed Denis Suarez struggle to deal with that aspect of the Premier League which indicates that it will be a risk for Emery to opt for the Argentine sensation who has recently struggled with injuries.
Overall, the pros outweigh the cons so the London side should consider bringing Pavon to the Emirates ahead of the new season.
