According to Sky Sports, Tammy Abraham is not interested in a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers next summer and wants to lead the line at Chelsea next term. The player is currently on loan at Aston Villa and has notched up 21 goals for the Villans, leading them to almost confirm a place in the Championship playoffs this season.
Chelsea have been suffering from an acute shortage of goalscorers this season, and it has been evident from their recent results, especially in the Premier League. The Blues failed to score against Everton in their last encounter and lost the match by 2-0, putting more pressure on their manager Maurizio Sarri. The Italian gaffer has been widely criticised by the fans for the lack of proficiency in his decision making this season so far.
The Blues have had a disappointing season up front with their strikers failing to score on a regular basis. They brought in Gonzalo Higuain this January to replace Alvaro Morata, who was sent to Atletico Madrid on loan. However, the move has not worked out as expected with the Argentine netting the ball only thrice in seven outings since his arrival at the club.
Olivier Giroud has been in good form in the Europa League but is yet to make a mark in the Premier League for the Blues. This being the situation, the presence of a young striker like Abraham might be a big boost for Sarri in the near future.
The former Swansea City striker has been the mainstay in the attack for Aston Villa since his arrival at the club last summer. However, he is more than willing to play for his parent club Chelsea permanently, and Sarri should take this opportunity to hand him a permanent role in the side once the loan stint is over.
Many would argue that Abraham is an inexperienced player at the top level, but the player has proven his mettle during his stay in the Premier League with Swansea City. He notched up eight goals and also confirmed that he is an able team player with five assists for the Welsh club.
Though it would be too much to hand the youngster the role of leading the attack permanently, Abraham could undoubtedly be a threat coming off the bench. So it would be a wise decision on the Italian gaffer’s part to think over his options up front once the England U21 international is back at Stamford Bridge and not let him leave on another loan stint for the next term.
