According to a recent report by the Sun, Arsenal are not willing to sign Denis Suarez permanently from Barcelona in the summer when his loan contract with the Gunners comes to an end. The same source has revealed that Unai Emery is looking to concentrate on alternative signings for the summer transfer period and has no intention of making Suarez’s deal permanent for £20m.
The Spanish talent has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in Emery’s first-team thus far. He is yet to make a start for Arsenal since sealing a loan move from Barca during the January transfer window.
The Sun also stated that Emery wants to give Suarez a chance to shine in the Premier League but believes that the player is struggling to cope with the physical toll of English football.
The 25-year-old has made six appearances for Arsenal this term but is yet to score or assist for them so far. The Spanish midfielder has not been impressive at all during his time on the pitch, so it is no surprise that the Gunners are unwilling to keep him at the club beyond this season.
Suarez has decent pace in midfield which helps him dribble with the ball out of tight spaces. The Spanish talent also has an eye for a killer pass and is capable of unlocking any defence when playing with confidence on the pitch. However, he has failed to highlight any of his strengths in the English top-flight up until now so unless there is a significant turnaround in his Arsenal career over the next few months, there is no reason why Emery should even consider keeping him for the long-run.
The truth is there are far better midfield options available in the transfer market, and it will be up to the Gunners chiefs to find a way to make some smart acquisitions in the summer transfer window. The departure of Suarez won’t have any effect on the Arsenal first-team, but it will free up some salary space for the North London outfit to go for quality, proven players ahead of the new campaign.
All signs point toward it being a wise decision by Emery not to take up the option to sign Suarez permanently next summer.
