Newcastle United had a horrible start to the season, and everyone thought that they would struggle to survive in the Premier League. However, Rafael Benitez has managed to work his magic again and the Magpies are uncannily on the same number of points as last season at this point of the season. They finished on the 10th spot last season and therefore finished in the top half. Another season like that would be termed as a significant success for the Tyneside outfit.
One of the major reasons for the turn in events this season has been the form of Venezuelan forward Salomon Rondon. The striker is on loan from West Bromwich Albion, and after a season like this, there is no doubt that the Toon need to jump in the market to sign him permanently.
Rondon has managed ten goals and five assists in all competitions. Newcastle have managed to score 31 goals in the Premier League this season, and Rondon has been involved in almost half of them.
His team-mate Isaac Hayden recently shared his sentiment on the influential forward and said (Birmingham Mail), ”He is a vitally important player for us, and his goals and assists ratio this season has been crucial.”
“It is obvious everyone would like to see him at Newcastle next season. If you asked every fan, and everyone at the club if they wanted him to stay, it is an obvious ‘yes’. But sometimes in football, it isn’t as simple as that, things are taken out of your control and it isn’t always up to the individual to stay or not. It is up to two clubs to negotiate.”
As the midfielder mentions, it is quite obvious that everyone would want him to stay and the Toon need to do everything in their means to sign him permanently. However, West Brom can demand an exorbitant price given the excellent form which the striker has shown.
Newcastle United meanwhile would hope that the Baggies fail to get promoted to the Premier League as that should give them an advantage while negotiating a deal for Rondon. The striker would likely prefer to play in the Premier League, and the Baggies might have to sell some of their prime assets (Our opinion).
Rondon suits United’s gamelan to perfection as he works hard and is a strong target man. What makes him lethal is his ability to finish in front of goal whether that is in the air or on the ground and no defender has found him easy to deal with given his physicality and pace. Therefore we expect the Tyneside outfit to go after this 29-year-old in the upcoming transfer window.
