According to a recent report by the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make a move to secure the services of Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham this summer. The same source has claimed the London outfit has not been able to agree to terms on a new deal which could pave the way for Sessegnon’s exit next summer.
The Cottagers would want to get something for his services rather than risk losing him for free at the end of next season. Hence, they might be more inclined to do business this summer with Spurs ready to snap him up to bolster their attacking options.
The 18-year-old had enjoyed a successful campaign last term but he has failed to nail down a first-team place at Craven Cottage this season. He has mostly been subjected to appearances from the bench which has somewhat derailed his progression.
Hence, a change in scenery could help the youngster take his game to the next level so that he can be a household name in Premier League football soon. Sessegnon has featured in 30 matches for the Cottagers this term, scoring two goals while creating five assists in all competitions. His numbers have gone down significantly when compared to last season, but the winger has still managed to show some glimpses of his true potential in this campaign.
Sessegnon boasts blistering pace and can dribble with the ball at high speed down the left touchline. He can also beat his marker in the attacking end of the pitch. However, the English wonderkid has often been wasteful with his productivity inside the opposition penalty area which is cause for concern.
The potential acquisition of Sessegnon will undoubtedly inject some much-needed quality to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. However, the jury is still out on whether he can be a regular starter at White Hart Lane. Pochettino has currently got a whole host of talented wingers in his team such as Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela and Moussa Sissoko who are all vying for a starting berth in the Tottenham first-team.
All signs point toward Sessegnon not being a guaranteed starter at the North London club. Thus, it might not be a wise move for him to join the North London giants next summer. However, for Spurs, it seems like a great fit as Pochettino will be the ideal manager to get the best out of his talents in the coming years.
