Everton will entertain Chelsea at Goodison Park on Sunday looking to bounce back from their 3-2 defeat against Newcastle United last weekend. The Toffees could move back to the top half of the Premier League table if they can secure a win against the Pensioners in this gameweek. However, it won’t be an easy feat as they will clash heads with an in-form Chelsea team that thrashed Dynamo Kiev 5-0 in the UEFA Europa League in midweek.
Marco Silva is expected to opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation for this match, but he won’t have the services of Kurt Zouma as he is ineligible to feature versus his parent club.
4-2-3-1 Everton Predicted Lineup To Face Chelsea
Defence
Jordan Pickford should keep his place in goal despite shipping in three goals against Newcastle United last weekend. Kurt Zouma won’t be available to play against his parent club which means that Phil Jagielka might line up alongside Michael Keane against the Pensioners this weekend. The duo will operate at the heart of the Everton backline as they look to cope with the threat of Gonzalo Higuain inside their own penalty area.
Seamus Coleman is a doubt for this game but could recover in time to feature at right-back. Lucas Digne is a nailed-on starter on the left side of the Toffees defence as the Frenchman looks to link up play with Bernard and Sigurdsson in the opposition half.
It won’t be easy for Silva’s defenders to keep things tight at the back as they will be going up against an in-form Eden Hazard who scored a brilliant goal versus Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.
Midfield
Idrissa Gueya and Andre Gomes will operate as the holding midfielders as they look to win the 50-50 duels at the centre of the park. The talented trio of Bernard, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison will operate just ahead of them as part of the Toffees attack. They will be responsible for creating chances in the opposition half and providing Calvert-Lewin with enough ammunition in front of the Chelsea goal.
Attack
Dominic Calvert-Lewin will spearhead the Merseyside outfit’s attack up top. The Everton youngster had a productive game versus the Magpies last weekend as he gave his team the lead during that match. So he will be aiming to repeat that feat against the Pensioners in front of the loyal Toffees supporters on Sunday.
