Manchester City entertained FC Schalke at the Etihad Stadium earlier tonight looking to progress into the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League with a win. The Citizens began dominating possession from the get-go and took the lead in the 35th minute courtesy of Sergio Aguero’s penalty. The Argentine striker doubled City’s lead just three minutes later before Leroy Sane scored just before half-time to put the tie to bed.
The second half was more of the same with Man City on the offensive and looking to rack up more goals going forward. Pep Guardiola’s men managed to score four more times in the second half through goals from Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus to complete a 7-0 hammering of their German opponents.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player performed during the match against Schalke.
GK: Ederson – 7/10
The Brazilian keeper hardly had anything to do in the game as he was not tested often by the Schalke attackers. He distributed the ball accurately and kept a relatively easy clean sheet for his team.
RB: Kyle Walker – 6.5/10
The English full-back did not have too much defending to do so he got the license to spend most of his time in the opposition half.
CB: Danilo – 7/10
He did well to fill in as a makeshift centre-back and put in a composed display at the heart of the Citizens backline.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 7/10
The Man City defender commanded his own box well and was also brilliant with his distribution during the game.
LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko – 6.5/10
He defended well and put in a solid shift at left-back.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 7.5/10
The Portuguese winger won the penalty which broke the deadlock between the two teams on the night. He also managed to grab a goal himself which will please Guardiola.
CM: IIkay Gündogan – 7.5/10
The German talent retained possession well in midfield. Gundogan also carved open the Schalke defence on quite a few occasions during the match.
CM: David Silva – 7/10
The Spaniard showed some moments of brilliance during his time on the pitch. However, he failed to get himself involved on the goal-scoring tonight.
RM: Raheem Sterling – 8.5/10
The English speedster was a menace for the away side as he looked unstoppable in the final third. Sterling managed to set-up Aguero’s second goal with a great touch and also managed to register a goal for himself in the second half.
ST: Sergio Agüero – 8/10
The Argentine forward scored two important goals in the first half which gave City the platform to go and snatch a 7-0 victory on the night.
LM: Leroy Sané – 10/10
The German winger was by far Guardiola’s best weapon going forward tonight. He was exceptional against the Schalke defenders and managed to secure a hattrick of assists during this game. He also got his name on the scoresheet in the second half to cap off an exceptional performance for the home team.
Substitutes:

The youngster came off the bench to score with a well-taken finish.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – 7/10
The Brazilian scored a brilliant goal after coming on to the pitch to replace Aguero.
