According to the latest report from the Telegraph, Real Madrid have made their first move in a bid to sign Eden Hazard in the upcoming summer transfer window. With Zinedine Zidane making a spectacular return at the helm of the club, a deal is much more likely to go through for the Belgian star.
It is believed that Madrid affirmed their interest in Hazard before appointing Zidane. The report adds that the Galacticos have already made a whopping proposal of £100m to Chelsea even though the Belgian star is soon going to enter in the final year of his contract.
The Los Blancos have had a terrible season according to their standards, and they are more or less guaranteed of going through the season trophyless. With a situation like that arising, it is no surprise that Real are already getting to work to improve their roster.
Hazard has long been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, and the winger himself has given enough indication in the past about joining the Spanish giants. Chelsea are meanwhile fighting for a top-four spot and if they fail to get a place in the Champions League, they can already say bye bye to their talismanic winger.
Even if they achieve their goal, it would be tough to keep hold of Hazard as he has been stalling contract talks for quite some time now. After the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid lost their identity. Now, they need to add more quality to their squad. The likes of Asensio and Gareth Bale failed to step up to the plate after the departure of the Portuguese star, and there is no doubt that the Champions League holders would splash significant cash in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Hazard has often pulled Chelsea out of a hole and given his overall ability; he should be a big hit at the Santiago Bernabeu. Traditionally a left winger, the 28-year-old often has the freedom of a free role in the attacking third for the Blues and his ball control and pace are usually a delight to watch.
A season like this was always going to be on the cards after Real Madrid didn’t manage to replace their talismanic man in the summer and we expect them to solve that situation in 2019. It remains to be seen though whether Chelsea would accept the £100m offer for their star man. There is no doubt that they might demand more given the kind of money which is being spent by clubs in the last few years. On the other hand, Hazard is going to enter the final year of his contract this summer.
