According to a recent report by Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira (via football.italia), Arsenal are still keeping tabs on AC Milan midfielder Suso ahead of a potential move in the summer. The same source has revealed that the Gunners had sent scouts to catch the Spanish talent in action against Chievo last weekend. Gennaro Gattuso’s men managed to win that league game with a 2-1 scoreline to further boost their UEFA Champions League hopes for next season.
The former Liverpool prospect is widely regarded as one of the best playmakers that the Serie A has to offer. Since making a switch to the San Siro from Liverpool in the summer of 2015, Suso has managed to establish himself as a regular starter in the Italian top-flight. He has put in some impressive displays in midfield for the Milan giants during this campaign.
The 25-year-old has made 30 appearances for AC Milan this term, finding the back of the net six times while creating seven assists across all competitions. His outstanding contributions on the pitch have helped AC Milan climb to the 3rd spot of the league standings.
Hence, the Italian outfit are now well in contention to secure a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League. The Cadiz youth product has also represented the Spanish national side four times at the international level.
Suso has decent pace and tremendous close control which helps him dribble with the ball and make some penetrative runs from midfield. He also has the vision to pick out a final pass in the opposition half. Moreover, the Serie A winger has added goals to his game this season which is why he has become such an integral member of Gattuso’s squad.
The Spanish sensation’s time at Merseyside was underwhelming, to say the least. He displayed a lot of promise but didn’t show enough on the pitch to merit a regular starting place for the Reds at the time. However, he has finally been able to unlock his true potential in Italy, so Arsenal can expect a much mature version of Suso if they do end up recruiting him at the end of this campaign.
A playmaker like Suso will undoubtedly bolster Unai Emery’s attacking options at the Emirates Stadium. He would also increase competition for places within the Arsenal midfield and add some much-needed depth to Emery’s current squad. Hence, the North London giants should do everything in their power to try and lure him to the Premier League next summer.
