According to the latest reports from the Scottish Sun, Rangers are close to agreeing on a pre-contract deal with Motherwell’s winger Jake Hastie. Hastie is one of the most talked about players in the Premiership, and the young winger won February’s player of the month. The 20-year-old was even linked with the likes of Celtic, Leeds United and Middlesbrough but it seems like Rangers have stolen a march ahead of their other rivals.
This can be seen as a massive coup for Gerrard and Co as Hastie is one of the brightest talents in Scottish football right now. The youngster has seen a miraculous rise in two months as not too long ago, he was playing for second division outfit Alloa Athletic in the first half of the season on loan.
The Well’s manager Stephen Robinson got him back in January, and since then, the winger has put in some prominent displays for his side which brought him attention from various clubs. Even the youngster seems to be surprised by his recent rise as he said, “It’s been quite weird since I’ve come into the team. I have to pinch myself sometimes. ”
”If someone had told me a couple of months ago this would all be happening, I’d probably have told them to shut up. I believed in my ability, but it’s taken me by surprise a bit. I thought I’d have to bide my time, but the gaffer has given me a chance and I just need to repay him now.”
A lot of credit does need to go to Stephen Robinson as he decided to throw the youngster into action and Hastie has responded well. The Scottish winger has managed 4 goals and one assist since he came back from his loan spell in January. Motherwell have lost just once in their last six games and have won four and Hastie’s good form has seemingly rubbed on with the whole team (The loss came against Celtic).
Often young wingers have neat tricks and skills but they fail to make a difference in the final third because of poor decision making. However, Hastie has showcased great instincts in the final third for a young player and there is no doubt that he could go on and improve further.
This is a piece of massive news for Rangers as some decent English sides were also in the mix to sign him. Most importantly they managed to get one over their arch-rivals Celtic and it seems like the Scotsman is close to moving to Ibrox after the latest reports.
