According to the latest reports from the Daily Mail, Leeds United are in the mix to sign Birmingham City’s highly rated 16-year-old striker Ramello Mitchell. Apart from the Whites, Premier League clubs like Wolves and Southampton are following his development closely. Reigning champions Manchester City’s name is also mentioned in the reports.
The youngster is having a fantastic season for Birmingham’s u-16 and u-18 side. The fact that he is already playing for the u-18 is a testament to his talent and abilities. However, the Whites need to move in quick if they want to secure the services of the striker as the report adds that West Midland club Wolves are hopeful of striking an agreement soon with the striker.
The West Yorkshire outfit has inducted young players to the senior team like no one else as Bielsa’s squad has often been hampered by injuries. However, instead of finding a solution by signing players in the transfer market, the club went on to promote quite a few young players this season to the senior team.
The likes of William Huffer, Jamie Shackleton, Leif Davis, Aapo Halme and Jack Clarke have all made their debuts under Bielsa. There is no doubt that Elland Road must be one of the most exciting places to join for a youngster at this point.
Wolves definitely seem like the frontrunners to us and any chance of Leeds landing this player is going to depend on which division they might play in next season. If the Whites fail to move up a division to the Premier League, they can probably forget signing a young prodigy like Mitchell who is in demand.
Under Bielsa, United’s forwards often work hard as the manager wants his striker to be the first line of defence. Therefore we have seen Kemar Roofe pressing up from the top and closing down defenders. To go with that, he is often allowed to drift around in wide areas in the attacking third, and his movement often makes the difference in the final third.
Mitchell has an impressive burst of speed, and he could be well suited to Bielsa’s playing style. However, he might need some time before he gets ready to play football at the senior level. There is no doubt that the club should try everything in their means to pull off this signing as Mitchell definitely looks like one for the future. However, Wolves seems to be leading the race as they have been following the youngster closely and are hoping to seal the deal for the striker soon.
