Leeds United’s fans have been abuzz on social media regarding the news of Samuel Saiz. Phil Hay of Yorkshire Evening Post recently went on to confirm that Getafe don’t have an obligation to buy Samuel Saiz permanently in the summer and they can turn down the opportunity if they want to.
More fire was added to the rumours of a possible return when a freelance journalist who goes by the name of David Smith (whose credibility we can’t ascertain much) posted the following.
LEEDS. Been asked about saiz being recalled to leeds and there is an option for that to happen. Not triggered yet and probably won’t due to the season not being far off over. Getafe will not be purchasing him in the summer. Player will return to Leeds. #Lufc #LeedsUnited

The tweet got spread around, and at the time of writing this, it had 90 retweets. Fans were mostly divided on Saiz’s recall midway through the season as many thought that he didn’t deserve to come back after leaving the club in a lurch in December. However, some put on a valid argument that he could slot back into playing in the attacking midfielder’s role, a position which is currently occupied by Tyler Roberts who has produced mixed results.
However, to clear all these rumours up stepped Phil Hay again. A fan posted a question regarding Saiz’s return, but Hay was quick to dismiss it stating that a strict man like Bielsa wouldn’t have him back.

That reply from the Yorkshire Evening Post’s journalist pretty much terminates all the rumours regarding his return this season. Saiz was initially dropped by the manager in his last few months, and Saiz’s transfer came as a bombshell to the club. Moreover, he left under mysterious circumstances, and that is never really a good way to depart from the club.
The 28-year-old attacking midfielder has managed just four starts since his arrival in Spain and has come off from the bench four times. Saiz hasn’t played a single minute in the last three La Liga games, and it seems that Getafe would think twice before signing him permanently.
With 11 games to go, Bielsa wouldn’t want to have a player back who left the club midway through the season. Knowing the Argentine’s demeanour towards discipline and the amount of commitment he wants from his players, it remains to be seen what the club would do if Getafe doesn’t exercise the right of signing the Spaniard on a permanent basis.
Saiz was way too inconsistent this season. It’s true that on his day, the midfielder can turn games but those days seemed to arrive once in a blue moon. His performance in Spain didn’t improve either, and Leeds might be still hoping that they can ship him out in the summer.
