According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move to secure the signature of Notts County striker Kion Etete. The same source has revealed that Spurs are looking to recruit the teenage forward who scored twice against West Ham United Under-18 team when he was on trial with the North London outfit last weekend.
The 17-year-old signed his first professional contract with Notts County on his birthday in November last year. He made his first-team debut for the League Two outfit versus Newcastle United in the Checkatrade Trophy earlier in this campaign. The Daily Mail has also claimed that Spurs will continue to monitor his progress in the English fourth division in the coming weeks.
Etete has made six first-team appearances for the League Two strugglers this season but is yet to find the back of the net. It is clear that he still has a lot to learn before he can be ready to feature in the Premier League.
The North London giants would do well to prize him away from the Magpies as the player could have a very promising career ahead in English football.
Standing at 6ft 1ins, Etete is a physically dominant centre-forward who can hold the ball up quite effectively to get his teammates up the pitch. He is also not afraid to run the channels and work hard for his team. However, at 17, he is still quite a raw talent who needs to be nurtured into a top-class prospect over the next few years.
Mauricio Pochettino could be the ideal man to manage Etete at White Hart Lane. The Argentine manager has shown in the past that he can work with young players and get the best out of them as evidenced by the recent emergence of Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Davinson Sanchez over the past couple of campaigns.
The 17-year-old striker’s acquisition would undoubtedly bolster Pochettino’s attacking options in the future. However, for now, the English teenager still has a lot to improve on the pitch and should be willing to work hard to fulfil his football ambitions. He will be an excellent addition to the Tottenham squad as long as Pochettino is ready to be patient with him.
