Manchester United will be in for a difficult night at Paris as they are set to take on Paris Saint-Germain at Parc Des Princes on Wednesday night. The Red Devils are currently trailing PSG with a 2-0 scoreline, so Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s men need to be at their best if they are to have a chance of overturning that two-goal deficit and secure a passage through to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.
The Mancunian outfit has lost just one game under Solkjaer this season which came against their Parisian opponents last month. However, the Premier League giants have shown in the recent past that they are a brave bunch and can hold their own against any team in Europe. Thus, it would be foolish to rule them out in this midweek encounter as the Red Devils have the potential to beat PSG away from home.
Paul Pogba is suspended for this clash so he will be a big miss for the away team. However, some of the Man United players have been in great form of late which should give them confidence heading into this European clash.
Let’s take a look at three changes Solkjaer could look to implement in midweek to try and overturn PSG’s two-goal lead which would ensure qualification into the next round of the competition.
Play With Lukaku And Rashford Up Top
Solkjaer should opt to play with Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford up top. The Red Devils need to score at least two goals in regular time to have any chance of making a comeback on Wednesday night. Hence, going with two strikers to play together in the PSG half could be the only way for Man United to make an unlikely comeback at Parc des Princes.
Rotation Of Full-backs In Attack
The Red Devils might be tempted to go gung-ho from the first minute, but that approach might leave them exposed on the counter. Thus, Solkjaer needs to instruct his full-backs, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young to drop deep when the other one is in the attacking third of the pitch.
Lineup Up With A Back Three
Keeping a clean sheet will be vital for Man United if they are to mount an incredible comeback in the second leg of their tie versus PSG. So it makes a lot of sense for Solkjaer to opt for a back three of Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones just so that United have enough protection at the back to deal with the threat of Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria.
