Tottenham Hotspur will travel to Germany to clash heads with Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday night hoping to keep things tight at the back and secure qualification into the quarter-final stages of the UEFA Champions League. They are carrying a commanding 3-0 advantage from the first leg so it won’t be easy for Dortmund to make a comeback.
Mauricio Pochettino might go for a 4-2-3-1 formation for this upcoming European encounter in midweek.
4-2-3-1 Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup To Face Borussia Dortmund
Defence
Hugo Lloris will lineup in between the sticks for Pochettino’s team despite failing to keep a clean sheet in each of his past three outings in the Premier League. The French keeper has been guilty of making a few errors at the back, but he had also come to his team’s rescue when they needed him to step up the most. The fact remains that he is having an inconsistent campaign this year so this midweek game could be an ideal opportunity for him to prove his worth at the highest level of European football.
The defensive duo of Juan Foyth and Jan Vertonghen might feature at the centre of the Tottenham defence. Both Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld could be rested for this game primarily due to Spurs’ dominant display versus Dortmund in the first leg.
Serge Aurier is expected to get the nod at right-back ahead of Kieran Trippier, who was heavily involved for Spurs over the past couple of games. Ben Davies might get a rare chance to impress at left-back if Pochettino decides to hand Danny Rose some well-deserved rest in midweek.
Midfield
Both Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko could line up as the holding midfielders as they have formed a solid partnership at the middle of the park. The talented trio of Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura might be unleashed ahead of them as part of the Tottenham frontline. The attacking three would look to link up with each other and create some decent opportunities inside the Dortmund penalty area.
If Spurs can manage to keep things tight in the early stages of this upcoming contest against their German opponents, then the pressure could be off their players’ shoulders as they would only be focussing on defending in numbers while trying to hit the opposition hard on the counter
Attack
Fernando Llorente might get another start as he spearheads the Tottenham attack up top. Harry Kane has seen a lot of game time since completing his return from injury so he could be handed some rest ahead of an important league encounter against Southampton next weekend.
