Everton will play hosts to their bitter rivals, Liverpool at Goodison Park on Sunday evening at the back of an impressive 3-0 win over Cardiff City in midweek. The Toffees have often disappointed with their performances in recent weeks. However, Marco Silva’s side will try to rise to the occasion and derail Liverpool’s title challenge by getting a result this weekend.
The Blues of Merseyside are expected to set-up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Silva opting to make two changes to his team for this Premier League encounter. Jonjoe Kenny and Andre Gomes might come in to replace Seamus Coleman and Morgan Schneiderlin in the Everton starting XI.
4-2-3-1 Everton Predicted Lineup To Face Liverpool
Defence
Jordan Pickford will lineup in goal for the home team on Sunday while Maarten Stekelenburg has to be content with a place on Marco Silva’s bench. The centre-half duo of Michael Keane and Phil Jagielka could operate at the heart of the Toffees defence after they managed to keep a clean sheet away at Cardiff City in midweek.
Lucas Digne will resume his responsibilities in the left-back position as he looks to cope with Mohamed Salah’s threat while defending in his own half. Seamus Coleman was heavily involved in midweek, and so Jonjoe Kenny is expected to feature on the other side in the right-back position, but he might have his hands full while up against an in-form Sadio Mane.
The Everton defenders will need to be at their best versus the Reds this weekend if they are to come away with something from this Merseyside derby.
Midfield
Idrissa Gueye will resume his duties as a holding midfielder alongside Andre Gomes who would look to be the creative spark for his side in midfield. The talented trio of Theo Walcott, Gylfi Sigurðsson and Richarlison will be unleashed ahead of them as part of the Toffees attack.
Sigurdsson is currently in a rich vein of form, and so he will be expected to carry the goal-scoring workload against Liverpool on Sunday evening.
Attack
Dominic Calvert-Lewin will likely keep his place up top as he spearheads the Toffees attack. He managed to register his name on the scoresheet against the Bluebirds on Wednesday night which would give him some much-needed confidence heading into this derby.
