Manchester United will play hosts to Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon on the back of an impressive 3-1 win over Crystal Palace in midweek. The Red Devils are still unbeaten in the Premier League under Ole Gunnar Solskjær which has shown that they have all the makings of a top 4 team. However, the proof is in the pudding so they would have to earn the results on the pitch every week between now and the end of the season.
The Mancunian outfit could line up in a 4-3-3 formation with Andreas Pereira set to start in midfield.
4-3-3 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Southampton
Defence
David De Gea will start in between the sticks for the home team despite failing to keep a clean sheet away at Crystal Palace. He can expect a much easier outing against the Saints this weekend.
The center-back pairing of Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof have worked well together in recent weeks. They will be tasked with protecting De Gea in goal while the likes of Ashley Young and Luke Shaw operate as the full-backs on either side of the Man United backline.
Phil Jones is a significant doubt for this game and will be in a race against time to be fit for this clash.
The Red Devils have managed to keep things tight defensively under Solskjær so we can expect another strong showing from them on Saturday.
Midfield
The Mancunian outfit might lineup with the midfield three of Fred, Paul Pogba and Andreas Pereira. Scott McTominay could also play some part in this game if required. However, Solskjær will be without the services of Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard as they are still out with serious injuries.
Attack
The Man United frontline will see the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford operate as the wingers while Romelu Lukaku leads the line up top. The Belgian international managed to score two goals against the Cherries which was enough to give his team all three points from their midweek encounter. Hence, he should be confident about repeating the same feat against Southampton this weekend.
Juan Mata is a significant doubt for this upcoming league clash as Solskjær tries to find a way to cope with his team’s growing list of injuries.
