Brendan Rodgers was appointed (BBC Sport) as the new Leicester City manager yesterday as he left his head coaching role at Celtic in favour of a high-profile switch to the King Power Stadium. The Foxes decided to sack Claude Puel earlier this month after a string of poor results on the pitch this season. The West Midlands outfit would now hope that Rodgers will take the club to the next level by recruiting wisely and getting the best out of the players at his disposal.
Just after being appointed, the former Liverpool manager revealed that he was “privileged and honoured” to take up his new role at Leicester City and said, “I’ll give my life to make the supporters proud of their club,”
“Together, we’ll be stronger and I’m looking forward to working with the players, staff and supporters to make the right steps forward.”
With the summer transfer window set to open in a few months, let’s take a look at three players Rodgers should look to bring to the King Power at the end of this campaign.
Mikel Oyarzabal
The La Liga winger has established himself as a regular starter at Real Sociedad over the past couple of seasons. He has continued his impressive goal-scoring form in this campaign. Oyarzabal has made 28 appearances for the La Liga outfit, scoring nine goals while creating two assists across all competitions. The Spanish prospect will be an ideal fit for Rodgers’ style of play at Leicester City as he is a technically gifted winger who can contribute in the attacking end of the pitch consistently.
Ever Banega
The Argentine playmaker has been a strong presence in the Sevilla midfield since sealing a move from Inter Milan in the summer of 2017. He has gained a lot of experience in the La Liga and could now be ready for a change in scenery.
The Premier League could be a new adventure for him and a club like Leicester will benefit from having a player of Banega’s ability in their squad. Rodgers has managed to attract some established names in European football during his time at Swansea City and Liverpool, so there is no reason why he can’t lure a player like Banega to the King Power Stadium next summer.
Sebastian Haller
The Bundesliga goal-machine has enjoyed a fantastic campaign with Eintracht Frankfurt after scoring a hatful of goals for them which has helped the club climb to the 6th place of the league table, just five points off fourth-placed RB Leipzig. Haller has registered 16 goals and provided 11 assists in 32 matches for Frankfurt this term across all competitions.
He could be a fantastic asset for the Foxes if they can somehow find a way to bring him to the Premier League in the summer.
