Celtic will take on German contingent Borussia Monchengladbach in the third round of the UEFA Champions League group stage. They started their much-awaited comeback campaign in the Premier club competition with a 7-0 mauling at the hands of mighty Barcelona but Brendan Rodgers’ side showed great character in their second game holding then high-flying Manchester City to a 3-3 draw.
Borussia Monchengladbach are a quality side and will be up for a strong showing against the Hoops at the Paradise. Andre Schubert’s side play a quick and attacking game and press their opponents very hard. Even one of the strongest sides in the world Barcelona had troubles to beat them and trailed 1-0 before the German side finally surrendered to the Catalans.
The games promises to be an exciting one and here are three Celtic players who have to deliver in this game in order to help their side see off Schubert’s side.
Scott Brown
Borussia Monchengladbach press their opponents very high up the pitch. That is why, their opponents find it very hard to stamp their authority in the middle of the park against Schubert’s side. Kramer, Dahoud and Stindl are likely to be the midfield trio for the German side against Celtic and Rodgers’ side might choke against their pressing at the heart of the park.
Scott Brown, the Celtic skipper, has to ensure that he manages to control the game despite Gladbach pressing so high. It’s not an easy task but with his experience, he has to control the game.
Scott Sinclair
Very few would have imagined that Scott Sinclair will manage to turn around his frozen career in English football in such an amazing fashion and that too right after a switch to Celtic Park.
The 27-year-old fleet-footed winger has scored 8 times while setting up 3 goals from just 14 games at Parkhead in all competitions this season. That’s incredible stats for a winger. With his experience and quality, Sinclair will play a key role for Celtic against Gladbach.
Kolo Toure
No current Celtic player has played more games in Europe that the iconic Ivorian defender. Even at the age of 35, he still has it in himself. Rodgers will look forward to the experienced defender to lead his back four against Gladbach who are a strong side attacking wise.
Toure knows such games inside out and he has always been a big-game player. Rodgers rested the 35-year-old in their Premiership game on Saturday probably because he wanted his key defender to stay fresh for the game to deal with the likes of Andre Hahn, Fabian Johnson and Lars Stindl.
