According to a recent report by Goal.com, Barcelona are currently the favourites to secure the services of Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer. The same source has also claimed that the Catalans could face stiff competition from Real Madrid, Chelsea and Bayern Munich in pursuit of the Bundesliga goal-scorer. Goal.com has also revealed that Frankfurt are hopeful they can clinch a €6m deal to sign Jovic permanently from Benfica next summer and are set to demand around €60m for his services from other clubs.
In a recent interview with Sportbuzzer, the Serbian youngster shed some light on his future and said, “I’m honoured, of course, for such big clubs to show an interest in me,”
“At the moment I’m just concentrating on Eintracht Frankfurt, that’s my top priority.”
Jovic has enjoyed a rich vein of form for the Bundesliga outfit this term, having made 29 appearances for them and scoring 19 goals while creating five assists across all competitions. He has been a prolific goal-getter throughout this campaign and is expected to play a pivotal role in Frankfurt’s chances of securing a UEFA Europa League place for next season.
His incredible contributions on the pitch have helped the German outfit climb to the 7th place of the Bundesliga standings, just two points off the 5th placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen. At such a young age, Jovic has managed to earn three international caps for the Serbian national team but is yet to score for his country.
The 21-year-old is a lethal finisher inside the opposition penalty box as evidenced by his scoring record this season. However, he has not proven his worth outside Germany so the jury is still out on whether he can produce the same numbers in a different league.
There is no doubt that the potential acquisition of someone as talented as Jovic will bolster Ernesto Valverde’s attacking options at the Nou Camp. Barca are still on the lookout for a long-term replacement for the ageing Luis Suarez so the Serbian forward could be an ideal candidate to take up the goal-scoring workload at Catalunya alongside Lionel Messi. Thus, he will be a fantastic addition to the Catalans squad which could benefit them for years to come.
