Leeds United, under iconic Marcelo Bielsa, are still going strong in the promotion chase. They have not always looked comfortable in the recent months but somehow managed to grind out results on quite a few important occasions.
Despite lacking squad depth, the Whites failed to strengthen themselves enough in the winter transfer window. A late breakdown of talks with Swansea City for winger Daniel James left the gaffer with no time to switch his sights elsewhere. But the youngster is still in Leeds’ radar, and a deal might even take place in the summer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Sport.
The rumour of Dan James baffled many considering his lack of experience at the highest level. But the youngster has emerged as a future sensation of late and his stunning solo goal against Brentford in weekend’s FA Cup tie showcased why he is rated so highly by the veteran Argentine. The 21-year-old set up a couple more and also had a hand in Ezri Konsa’s dismissal en route to scripting a comeback victory.
” I would say certainly yes, if he was going to move anywhere.”
“All parties have to agree. It’s a process, you have to make sure everybody’s happy.”
Leeds, meanwhile, would require one outright wide attacker who is young, promising and holds the traits to flourish in Bielsa’s philosophy. They are heavily reliant on 33-year-old Pablo Hernandez who has been instrumental down the wide as well as in a central role. Jack Clarke has been a revelation since being promoted to the senior side. However, it would be a massive ask for the teenager to step up and deliver week in week out. Ezgjan Alioski has been highly inconsistent whereas Jack Harrison, the young Manchester City loanee, is unlikely to be tied down on permanent terms even though he has shown signs of improvement in recent weeks.
The West Yorkshire heavyweights are living dangerously but, at the same time, have shown grit and determination to make it to Premier League after years of anguish. The focus, therefore, must be on grabbing a promotion first which, in turn, would help the Whites lure in the Welsh prodigy.
