In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, on-loan Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson has shed some light on his future at Anfield and also talked about his current club, Derby County’s chances of securing promotion back to the Premier League. The Welsh talent said, “The main focus this season is to get promoted with Derby,”
“But Mason’s goal is to play for Chelsea and my goal is to play for Liverpool. I have always felt like a Liverpool player.
In the same interview, he also revealed that he received a special message from Jurgen Klopp and added, “He dropped me a text to tell me he’d watched the free kick against United and he was delighted with the performance – and the goal!”
The free-kick mentioned above is, of course, the one Wilson scored at Old Trafford against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United earlier this season when the Rams managed to earn a penalty shootout victory over the Red Devils in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Wilson has been enjoying a successful loan spell at Pride Park and is expected to play an integral role for Frank Lampard’s team over the coming months as Derby look to clinch a playoff berth in the EFL Championship.
The Welsh prospect is very quick and agile which helps him dribble with the ball out of tight spaces in midfield. He has also added goals and assists to his game as evidenced by his impressive record for the Rams this season. The 21-year-old has made 30 appearances for the East Midlands outfit this term, scoring 12 goals while creating four assists across all competitions.
There is no doubt that Wilson has a very promising career ahead in English football but only if he can continue improving his game on the pitch in order to unlock his true potential. Klopp has currently got a plethora of attacking options in his squad with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri all vying for a starting berth in the Liverpool first-team.
Hence, it won’t be easy for him to secure a regular starting place under Klopp next season. However, Wilson is still good enough to fight for his right to start for the Merseyside giants consistently next season, so only the sky is the limit for the talented Welsh starlet.
