According to a recent report by the Sun, Manchester United are lining up a move to secure the signature of Benfica starlet Joao Felix at the end of this campaign. The same source has also claimed that the Red Devils have sent their scouts to monitor his progress at the Liga NOS club this season and Ole Gunnar Solskjær has received some reviews on the Portuguese forward.
Felix has played football in Portugal throughout his young career after representing clubs such as Dragon Force and FC Porto prior to his switch to the Estádio Sport Lisboa e Benfica back in 2015. The Portuguese wonderkid has worked his way up the club’s youth ranks before finally breaking into Bruno Lage’s starting XI at the beginning of this season.
The Benfica sensation is exceptionally versatile and can operate in multiple positions up front. He primarily plays as a secondary striker, but he is also quite capable of filling in as an attacking midfielder in the number 10 position or feature as a winger down the left flank. The Viseu born prospect boasts electric pace which helps him dribble with the ball at high speed out on the wide channels to cause a lot of problems for the opposition defenders in the attacking end of the pitch.
The Liga NOS talent has defied expectations this term after putting in a few breathtaking displays for Benfica during the past couple of months. The 19-year-old has featured in 24 matches for the Eagles this season, scoring nine goals while providing five assists in all competitions. He has also represented his nation, Portugal at various youth levels. It is expected that he will play an integral role for Fernando Santos’ senior team if he can continue making progress over the next few years.
Felix’s potential acquisition will undoubtedly bolster Man United’s attacking options at Old Trafford. The Red Devils will benefit from acquiring a player of Felix’s incredible potential as he could be nurtured into a world-class prospect in the coming seasons. However, he is still quite a raw talent which will be a cause for concern.
The Portuguese striker has all the makings of a future star so he will be a player to look out for if he does end up sealing a high-profile move to the Theatre of Dreams next summer.
