Manchester United took on Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford earlier tonight looking to continue their good form in the UEFA Champions League. The Red Devils began the match on the offensive, but it was PSG who looked threatening on the counter.
The away side managed to take the lead in the 52nd minute through Presnel Kimpembe’s finish from close range. Thomas Tuchel’s men doubled their lead just 7 minutes later when Kylian Mbappe scored with a composed strike.
United created a few half-chances, but it wasn’t enough to trouble the PSG defenders as the match finished 2-0 in favour of the Parisian giants.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the match against the French outfit.
GK: David De Gea – 7/10
The Spanish keeper made some important saves during the game to keep the scoreline respectable for the home side.
RB: Ashley Young – 6/10
The English wing-back delivered some inviting crosses from the right flank but lacked discipline while defending in his own half.
CB: Eric Bailly – 5/10
He failed to cope with Kylian Mbappe’s pace and lacked conviction while defending at the back.
CB: Victor Lindelöf – 5.5/10
The Swede retained possession well for the Red Devils, but just like his centre-back partner, he was no match for Mbappe’s threat in the final third.
LB: Luke Shaw – 5/10
The English left-back fought hard but was not able to make an impact going forward.
CM: Ander Herrera – 5/10
The Spaniard put in a mediocre performance in midfield and failed to create anything meaningful in the opposition half.
CM: Nemanja Matic – 4/10
The Serbian midfielder lost track of Kimpembe who scored the opener for PSG. Matic struggled to deal with the clever movement of the PSG defenders and was not creative enough in midfield.
CM: Paul Pogba – 4/10
The Frenchman was a frustrated figure during the game as Thomas Tuchel’s men successfully marked him out of the game. He got sent off for a late challenge on Dani Alves which summed up his night.
RM: Jesse Lingard – 6/10
The English winger was bright and inventive when breaking forward and linked up with Rashford well on quite a few occasions in the first half. Unfortunately for him, his night was cut short due to injury.
ST: Marcus Rashford – 6/10
The English centre-forward was Man United’s biggest weapon on the night. He was always willing to run the channels but was often left isolated while also being tightly marked by the PSG defenders.
LM: Anthony Martial – 5/10
The French forward was not able to get himself into the game in the first half. Moreover, he had to go off with an injury which will be a big blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
Substitutes:
CAM: Juan Mata – 4/10
The Spaniard was not effective in the attacking end of the pitch.
ST: Alexis Sanchez – 3/10
The Chilean international was caught ball-watching most of the time in the second half.
ST: Romelu Lukaku – N/A
Not enough time to make an impact.
