Rangers claimed a crucial 4-2 victory against Aberdeen away from home to keep themselves in the title race. The Light Blues are set to take on Kilmarnock next at Rugby Park in the Scottish Cup tie, and Steven Gerrard would be keen on avenging the defeat which the Killie handed them not too long ago.
Many would consider the Scottish Cup as Rangers’ best chance to earn any silverware this season and the club should look to go all out to win this competition. Gerrard would be keen on getting one over Steve Clarke, so we expect him to come up with a strong team for this cup encounter.
Team News: Graham Dorrans, Eros Grezda and Jamie Murphy are not going to be available for selection due to injury.
Rangers predicted lineup Vs Kilmarnock
Formation (4-2-3-1)
Defence
Wes Foderingham started the last cup game, but Allan McGregor is expected to start in goal for this tie. Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson can get the nod ahead to start in the centre back role. However, it can go either way, and Joe Worrall can fill in for either of the two defenders. So our guess is as good as yours, but we are still going with the Goldson and Katic partnership.
Borna Barisic has been terrific in the left back spot and he should continue in that position. However, Gerrard might be wary of not starting him in quick succession given his injury record, so we won’t be surprised if Andy Halliday starts in that role. James Tavernier is a nailed on starter in the right back spot.
Midfield
Ryan Jack could be rested as he has played regularly for quite some time now. Winter signing, Steven Davis is likely to get the nod in midfield. He should be partnered by Ross McCrorie who has slowly established himself as an integral member of the Rangers squad.
Further up front, Scott Arfield will start in the attacking midfield role. Gerrard might want to give Ryan Kent a rest in this game given that the club is set to play Kilmarnock again in the league in a few days time. However, we would like to see the gaffer go in with a strong side so Kent should start from the left. Daniel Candeias is expected to operate on the right flank.
Attack
Jermain Defoe didn’t start in the midweek game against Aberdeen, so he is expected to lead the line in this Cup tie.
