Everton have had a rollercoaster of a season so far as they have been far too inconsistent with their performances on the pitch. Marco Silva chose to bring in a lot of new players last summer which saw his side initially struggle to gel together. However, the Toffees have slowly found their identity under the former Watford boss with players such as Richarlison and Lucas Digne flourishing with regular first-team opportunities under Silva.
However, a run of poor results in recent weeks has given rise to a lot of criticism from pundits and fans alike with some questioning the Everton manager’s methods on the pitch. With the first half of the season now over, let’s take a look at how Marco Silva has fared at Goodison Park since taking charge of the Merseyside club last summer.
Coaching Philosophy – 7/10
It is no secret that Marco Silva’s playing style is pleasing on the eye and that has also been the case at Everton where we have seen the Toffees play some attractive football during this campaign. Sometimes their dazzling performances have not transformed into results, but not a single Everton supporter can complain about Silva’s coaching philosophy at the blue half of Merseyside.
Youth Development – 8/10
Young players such as Ademola Lookman, Tom Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all seen a lot of game time under Silva’s tutelage this term which goes to show that that the Portuguese manager is willing to give his young talents a chance if they are good enough to feature for Everton on a regular basis.
Tactics – 4/10
The 41-year-old head coach has been tactically outclassed by some other managers this season. Silva has often been quite stubborn with his approach to the game which has meant that the more pro-active managers have managed to get the better of him during this campaign.
Results – 4/10
The Lisbon born manager has taken charge of 29 matches for the Toffees this term, winning 11, drawing 6 and losing 12 of those matches with a poor PPG (Points Per Game) average of 1.34.
His record at Everton has been poor, but the club’s owners would hope that it is just a minor setback towards building a better future at Goodison Park under the leadership of Marco Silva.

It is evident that Silva still needs some time before he can transform Everton into a top 6 club over the coming years. For now, the Portuguese manager still has a lot of work to do if he wants to find success with the Toffees in the long run. The Everton chiefs and fans should be more patient with him.
