Everton will entertain Manchester City at Goodison Park on Wednesday night as they look to bounce back from their 3-1 home loss at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend. Marco Silva’s men had to endure a frustrating outing versus Wolves on Saturday. However, they would get another chance to make amends by claiming an unlikely win against the reigning champions of England in midweek.
The Toffees could line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation as Lucas Digne is set to return from his one-match suspension to feature at left-back.
4-2-3-1 Everton Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester City
Defence
Jordan Pickford will take his place in goal for the home side on Wednesday night while Maarten Stekelenburg has to be content with a spot on Marco Silva’s bench. The centre-half pair of Michael Keane and Kurt Zouma could feature at the heart of the Everton defence even though they shipped in three goals against Wolves last weekend.
Lucas Digne will resume his duties as the left-back after he missed Everton’s last league outing due to suspension. Seamus Coleman will be deployed on the other side in the right-back position, but he might have his hands full while up against Man City’s Leroy Sane.
Marco Silva’s defenders will need to be at their best against the Citizens if they are to have any hope of getting a result in midweek.
Midfield
Tom Davies will resume his duties as a defensive midfielder alongside Andre Gomes who would look to retain possession for the Toffees in midfield. The terrific trio of Ademola Lookman, Gylfi Sigurðsson and Richarlison might be unleashed ahead of them as part of the Everton attack.
Both Richarlison and Gomes have been amongst the goalscorers in recent weeks, so they should be confident about putting on another productive showing against Man City on Wednesday night.
Attack
Cenk Tosun will spearhead the Toffees attack up top while both Theo Walcott and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have to settle for a place on the bench. The Turkish forward has struggled to score goals consistently for his team this season, but this high-profile match against the Citizens will be another great chance for him to kick-start his Everton career if he can somehow manage to be more ruthless in front of the opposition goal.
