Manchester United took on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium earlier today looking to continue their push towards a top 4 place in the Premier League standings. The Red Devils made a quick start to the game and managed to get themselves ahead in the 9th minute through Marcus Rashford’s calm finish. The Foxes tried to come up with a response but went into the half-time break a goal down.
Both teams fought hard in the second half but couldn’t manage to add to the goal-tally as the match finished 1-0 in favour of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the match against the Foxes.
GK: David De Gea – 8/10
The Spanish keeper pulled off two amazing saves during the game to keep a well-deserved clean sheet for the away side.
RB: Ashley Young – 7/10
The English talent put on a solid shift at right-back and defended quite effectively in his own half.
CB: Eric Bailly – 7/10
He repaid his manager’s faith by putting in a strong and matured display at the heart of the Man United defence.
CB: Victor Lindelöf – 7.5/10
The Swede led the Red Devils backline well and kept calm under pressure to earn another shut-out for his team.
LB: Luke Shaw – 7.5/10
The English full-back made a great block to deny James Maddison. He was also quite productive down the left flank.
CDM: Nemanja Matic – 6/10
Not as effective as the others around him, yet the Serbian midfielder did enough to restrict the Foxes attackers from scoring a goal.
CM: Ander Herrera – 7/10
The Spaniard worked his socks off at the middle of the park and linked up play well in the opposition half.
CM: Paul Pogba – 7/10
The French star showed a touch of class while setting up Rashford for the opening goal of the contest. His pace and power from midfield gave the Leicester defenders a lot of problems during the encounter.
CAM: Jesse Lingard – 6/10
He used his quickness to make some good runs off the ball. However, he lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
ST: Marcus Rashford – 8.5/10
His classy finish in the 9th minute was enough to make the difference in this contest. Rashford is getting better with each game under Solskjaer so a lot will be expected of him moving forward.
ST: Alexis Sánchez – 5/10
The Chilean winger failed to make an impact and was subbed after the hour mark.
Substitutes:
ST: Anthony Martial – 6/10
The Frenchman used his pace well to run the channels after coming off the bench but couldn’t create enough going forward.
ST: Romelu Lukaku – 6/10
The Belgian made some good runs in the opposition half to give the Man United defenders a breather during the dying embers of the encounter.
CB: Phil Jones – N/A
He came on to run the clock down for the away team.
