Wolverhampton Wanderers have performed well on their return to the English top-flight this season. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have lit up the Premier League with a number of dazzling displays at the Molineaux Stadium during this campaign. One of the many reasons for their recent success has been the Portuguese manager’s faith in his young players.
The likes of Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, Leander Dendoncker and Ruben Vinagre have all come leaps and bounds under the Wolves head coach’s expert stewardship, and they are finally showing how much they have grown with some eye-catching performances in recent weeks. However, one player who has slowly gone about his business away from the spotlight has been Wolves’ Jonny Otto.
He initially joined the West Midlands outfit on loan last summer, but Nuno Santo moved quickly to make sure that he penned a permanent contract with the club during the January transfer window. With so many promising talents vying for a starting berth at the Molineaux, let’s take a look at the strongest Wolves lineup at Nuno Santo’s disposal if every member of his squad is fit and prepared to start.
Defence
Rui Patricio has been the undisputed number one keeper at the West Midlands club this season, so his selection is a no-brainer. The Portuguese keeper has done well with a back three of Ryan Bennett, Conor Coady and Willy Boly protecting him in the defensive end of the pitch.
Midfield
The all-Portuguese duo of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho have performed well in high-profile matches which makes them automatic starters. Leander Dendoncker has also shown signs of promise over the past few games which makes his inclusion a necessity as well.
Matt Doherty has arguably been Wolves’ player of the season so far as he is remarkably consistent with his end-product going forward. He also puts in his fair share of defensive work when marking a player in his own half.
The new January arrival, Jonny Otto has done enough for the Molineaux-0utfit in this campaign to get the nod ahead of Ruben Vinagre, who is also a player to look out for in the future.
Attack
The excellent striking partnership between Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez have produced a lot of goals for Wolves in the month of January, so there is no reason for Nuno Santo to tinker with his current frontline.
