Sunderland have drawn the last three of their League One games, and that has seen them drop to the fifth place in the table. However, they have games in hand over their other rivals, but they need to start racking up the points if they want to go through to the Championship via the direct promotions spots.
Ross’ side will take on AFC Wimbledon at home as the Black Cats trail Luton Town by nine points. The club might have lost Josh Maja in the transfer window, but they managed to sign their prime target Will Grigg just in time. The new signing is not expected to play any part tomorrow, but there should be positive vibes among the supporters after the Wearside outfit did some excellent business in the last day of the transfer window.
Sunderland Predicted Lineup Vs AFC Wimbledon
Formation (4-4-2)
Defence
Jon McLaughlin is likely to continue as the first choice in goal for the manager. Jimmy Dunne is likely to play in the heart of the defence. Tom Flanagan should partner him at the back. The Black Cats’ defence has been more or less tight for the most parts this season as they have the joint best defensive record in the League One as of now.
Bryan Oviedo can start down the left though Reece James is also a strong contender for that spot. However, we are going in with the former Everton player and Costa Rican international Oviedo. Luke O’Nien has done well as a makeshift fullback down the right, and he is set to continue in that role.
Sunderland’s recent defensive record hasn’t been good, and the team should focus on getting a clean sheet.
Midfield
Lee Cattermole and Max Power are likely to start in the middle of the park. Both of them would try to break down opposition play and set a base for their side’s attack. New signing Lewis Morgan has reunited with his former manager Jack Ross, and he might get a start down the left after he joined from Celtic on loan. The experienced Aiden McGeady might feature down the right to complete the midfield four.
Attack
After the departure of Josh Maja and Jerome Sinclair, Ross has minimal options. Duncan Watmore can start up front given the pace he possesses. Chris Maguire could be his likely partner. Will Grigg might make a substitute appearance.
