According to this report from the Mirror, Arsenal have completed the loan signing of Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez as Barcelona confirmed the move on their website. However, the article was later deleted and cannot be found on the official Barcelona website right now.
According to the same report from the Mirror, the Spanish ace will join Arsenal on loan for the remainder of the season, and the Gunners will have the option to make this loan move permanent at the end of the season for £18m. The 25-year-old has also signed a new contract with Barcelona to protect the ‘market value‘ of the player in the event this loan move does not work out.
The La Liga talent has found game time hard to come by at Barca this season but has still managed to score two goals and provide one assist in six appearances under Ernesto Valverde’s stewardship so far. There is no doubt that Suarez is in dire need of a change in scenery this month if he wants to reignite his career in European football.
The 25-year-old is a bright midfielder who can run with the ball out of tight areas to cause problems for the opposition defenders. The Spanish sensation also has the ability to pick out a defence-splitting pass which is one of the many reasons why he is plying his trade at an elite club like Barcelona.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery has often favoured using a 4-2-3-1 formation on match-days and so he needs two creative forces in midfield who can shield his backline well while also having a major impact in the opposition half. The Gunners have already got Lucas Torreira who can play in that role and make an impact at both ends of the pitch but the likes of Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka have sometimes been underwhelming with their performances on the pitch this season.
Hence, someone like Denis Suarez will be an excellent fit for Emery’s system at the Emirates Stadium as he can come in and form a solid midfield partnership with Torreira which could help the Gunners earn a top 4 finish at the end of this Premier League campaign.
Moreover, the Spaniard is versatile enough to feature as a left-sided winger meaning that he would provide some added cover for players such as Alex Iwobi, Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal down the left side of the Arsenal midfield. This move was definitely a no brainer for Emery.
