Tottenham Hotspur will entertain Watford at the Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night looking to bounce back from two successive defeats against Chelsea and Crystal Palace respectively. Spurs only have the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League to concentrate on after they were knocked out of the League Cup and the FA Cup last week. Hence, Mauricio Pochettino simply cannot afford to drop any more points at home to the Hornets and lose ground in the race to finish in the top 4 spots at the end of this season.
The North London giants might line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation with Erik Lamela set to return to Pochettino’s starting XI.
3-4-2-1 Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup To Face Watford
Defence
Hugo Lloris will start in goal for Spurs after he was rested in the domestic cup competitions last week. Pochettino might revert back to playing a back three of Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez for this crucial league encounter versus the Hornets on Wednesday night.
The North London outfit were knocked out of the League Cup and the FA Cup by Chelsea and Crystal Palace respectively with the Spurs defence conceding two goals in each of those matches last week. Hence, Pochettino would expect a solid response from his defenders in midweek as Tottenham looks to return to winning ways in the Premier League.
Midfield
The dynamic duo of Harry Winks and Christian Eriksen might operate as the holding midfielders as they look to distribute the ball to the front players. Danny Rose will provide the width down the left flank while Kieran Trippier would look to deliver a few telling crosses from the wide areas.
The pair of Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela might be deployed ahead of them as part of the Tottenham attack. Both attacking midfielders need to be at the top of their game if Spurs are to come away with maximum points from this match.
Moussa Sissoko is a major doubt for this encounter, but Dele Alli will definitely miss out on this clash due to injury.
Forward
Pochettino might opt for Fernando Llorente up top. The Spanish forward would need a lot of help from his teammates as he would be isolated most of the time during the game. However, Llorente has proven in the past that he can find the back of the net as long as the delivery is good into the opposition penalty box.
Harry Kane is still sidelined due to a knee injury and could be out until March. Hence, the Spaniard will need to step up and produce the goods on the attacking end of the pitch during the English superstar’s absence.
