Chelsea advanced to the final of the Carabao Cup with a win over Tottenham Hotspur on penalties as they will take on defending champions Manchester City in the final match of the competition. Maurizio Sarri’s men would now look to stamp their authority in the FA Cup as well when they take on Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the tournament.
The Blues have already added some significant firepower to their lineup with the signing of Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus. However, the Argentine would have to wait for his turn to turn out on the pitch in Chelsea colours as Sarri might not look to risk his key players in their next clash against the Championship side.
Team News
Chelsea have a full strength side at their disposal barring their midfield sensation Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The Englishman is out with a back injury and is set to miss the match against Sheffield Wednesday.
Goalkeeper
After his heroics in the penalty shootout against Tottenham, Kepa is set to be rested in the FA Cup match. Willy Caballero is expected to replace him in the starting lineup against Sheffield Wednesday.
Defence
Davide Zappacosta would start on the right-hand side of the pitch and replace Cesar Azpilicueta while Emerson Palmieri would keep his place in the team for the FA Cup clash. Andreas Christensen would start in the heart of the defence alongside David Luiz.
Midfield
The three-man midfield would feature N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic in the central midfield. Ethan Ampadu would put in a shift in the defensive midfielder position behind the duo.
Attack
With Sarri not expected to take any risk with Higuain, Olivier Giroud is set to lead the line for the Blues against Sheffield. He would be supported by Callum Hudson-Odoi, who would start as the wide attacker on the right-hand side along with Willian, who would put in a shift from the left.
Predicted Formation: 4-3-3
