According to a recent report by SportBild, Liverpool have made a late move to secure the services of Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi during this January transfer window. The same report has also claimed that the Reds are trying to convince the English talent to snub a switch to Bayern Munich in favour of a move to Anfield this month.
The London born talent came through the youth ranks at Chelsea but has still not managed to establish himself as a regular starter in Maurizio Sarri’s first team. He has been a sporadic feature for the Pensioners so far this season which has thrown his future at Stamford Bridge in doubt.
The English teenager might need to switch clubs to get more first-team experience under his belt. He was one of the stars of the England Under-17 team during their 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup success in India.
Hudson-Odoi has represented his nation at every youth level from Under-16 onwards and is tipped to have a very bright future in English football. However, he has made just ten appearances for Chelsea this term, scoring one goal while grabbing three assists across all competitions. The lack of game time has hampered his progress so it could be the perfect time for him to move on in search of more first-team opportunities.
The 18-year-old boasts incredible pace and is a great dribbler with the ball down the wide areas. The Pensioners starlet is also quite direct with his runs and is not afraid to take on his marker in and around the opposition penalty area. However, the English talent is still quite raw and is far from a finished product. So Hudson-Odoi would need to be nurtured well over the next few years if he is to fulfil his true potential.
The addition of someone of his potential will undoubtedly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options in the future. However, for now, it is difficult to see how the English prospect will get any game time at Anfield this season with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri already vying for a place in Klopp’s starting XI.
Having said that, it would be a massive coup for the Reds if they can somehow convince the London-born talent to make a move to Merseyside during this winter transfer period as Klopp could be the ideal manager to get the best out of this talented speedster.
