According to a recent report by the Metro, Arsenal are looking to secure the services of Juventus goalkeeper Emil Audero, who is currently playing on loan at Sampdoria. The same report has also revealed that the Gunners are on the lookout for a replacement for Petr Cech and have identified the Italian goalie as an ideal candidate to fill the veteran keeper’s boots once he hangs up his gloves at the end of this campaign.
The Italian shot-stopper came through the youth ranks of Juventus but has failed to nail down a place in the Juve first-team so far. Thus, the Turin giants might be willing to let him leave permanently next summer as he is not an integral member of Massimiliano Allegri’s squad.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a successful loan spell at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris after putting in some solid displays at the back under Marco Giampaolo’s tutelage during this season. Audero has featured in 21 matches for the Serie A outfit this term, conceding 26 goals while keeping eight clean sheets across all competitions.
His incredible contributions in goal have helped his team climb to the 8th spot of the league standings. Sampdoria are now in with a real chance of clinching a UEFA Europa League spot at the end of this campaign.
Audero boasts razor-sharp reflexes and is also good on the ground. However, his distribution and handling skills can be poor at times. He is still not ready to feature regularly for a club like Juventus, but the Italian talent could serve as a decent back-up keeper for any club due to his good shot-stopping attributes.
Hence, it could prove to be a clever move for the Gunners if they can successfully lure the Juve keeper to the Emirates Stadium next summer. The addition of Audero will not only bolster Unai Emery’s goalkeeping options at the North London club but will also provide some added competition for Bernd Leno.
Moreover, the Italian goalie can also benefit from making a switch to one of the most challenging leagues in world football if he is willing to move out of his homeland in the near future.
