According to a recent report by the Independent, Arsenal are exploring the possibility of sealing a loan move for Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, who is currently playing on loan at Bayern Munich. The Colombian international is on an extended loan deal at the Allianz Arena but is set to return to his parent club at the end of this campaign. However, the same report has also revealed that Los Blancos are hoping to sell him on a permanent basis with the Gunners favouring a loan offer for him this month.
The 27-year-old has often flattered to deceive with his performances on the pitch in this campaign. But he has still managed to make some match-winning contributions for Niko Kovač’s side which has given his team some hope of a major turnaround in the race for the Bundesliga title. The German heavyweights are currently trailing the league leaders, Borussia Dortmund by six points at the top of the league standings going into the second half of this season.
However, the lack of first-team opportunities due to injuries have hampered Rodriguez’s growth as a player, and now, he faces the possibility of not fulfiling his real potential. Hence, a move to Arsenal could be a good chance for him to make a fresh start and reignite his career in one of the most challenging leagues in world football.
Rodriguez is a world-class talent who has shown in the past that he can be a game changer when playing with confidence on the pitch. The Colombian international’s game time needs to be managed nowadays, but he can still make a significant impact off the bench.
The former FC Porto star has found the back of the net thrice while creating two assists in 12 appearances for Bayern this term in all competitions. He also boasts a brilliant international record with the Colombian national team after registering 21 goals in 66 international matches for the South American country. The acquisition of someone of Rodriguez’s quality will undoubtedly bolster Arsenal’s attacking options at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Unai Emery needs to make sure that he can offload Mesut Ozil before making a loan move for Rodriguez. The Gunners simply cannot afford to pay high wages to Rodriguez, who might arrive on loan, while also continue paying Ozil his full wages without utilising him on the pitch. The Arsenal boss should instead choose between one or the other or else risk making another financially disastrous deal for the North London club.
