According to a recent report by AS, FC Porto defender Eder Militao’s agent, Giuliano Bertolucci has revealed that the defender won’t leave the Portuguese club this month amidst speculation linking him with a switch to Liverpool during this January transfer window. In a recent interview mentioned in the same report, Bertolucci shed some light on his client’s future and said, “There is no possibility of the player leaving his current club in the winter market,”
“We’re not ruling out his signing for Real Madrid in the summer.”
Another report by SporTV has also backed the claim by stating that the Galacticos have a verbal agreement in place with FC Porto to secure the services of Militao at the end of this campaign.
This recent development will be discouraging for Liverpool and their plans to recruit the Brazilian centre-back. However, it might be a blessing in disguise as the Reds still have a plethora of quality defensive options at the back so another new addition could have hampered the morale of the team going into the crucial few months in their quest to end their 29-year wait for a Premier League title.
The 21-year-old has made 25 appearances for Porto this term and has two goals and two assists to his name across multiple competitions. At such a young age, the talented centre-back made his international debut for the Brazilian national side in an international friendly match versus El Salvador back in September last year.
Liverpool currently boasts the best defensive record in the English top-flight despite shipping in 3 goals at home against Crystal Palace last weekend. Virgil Van Dijk has been a real revelation in Klopp’s backline, and the Dutch defender has managed to get the best out of Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren who are both out of action for the time being. In their absence, Joel Matip has lined up for the Reds and has also looked like a reliable option at the back which begs the question of whether Liverpool needs to add any more fresh faces to their defence in the near future.
Militao is a defensive powerhouse and is quite athletic as well. The Brazilian is good in the air and can play at a high level in European football. However, he lacks accuracy with his distribution which won’t suit Klopp’s style of play at Anfield. Hence, the Merseyside outfit are better off staying put for now and concentrate on doing all of their transfer dealings next summer.
