According to a recent report by Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur have ruled out the possibility of securing the signature of Giuseppe Rossi during this January transfer window. The same report has revealed that Spurs were being linked with a move for the Italian talent so that they could cope with Harry Kane’s absence due to a knee injury. However, when asked about Rossi being a potential solution to his striking worries, Pochettino said, “There are many names that appear in every transfer window.
“I think he is another name to add on the list but it is only a rumour. We have not considered him.”
“It’s a rumour like another but if you ask me, I think no, it’s not a possibility.”
The 31-year-old is currently training with Manchester United after being released by Genoa last summer. He is available on a free transfer but is way past his prime and so it could be a wise move by Spurs to opt against a move for his services.
There are still question marks regarding the Italian’s ability to prove his worth in English football as he has been plagued with injuries throughout his football career. However, the Italian forward is vastly experienced in European football and has found a lot of success scoring goals in the La Liga and the Serie A.
However, Rossi failed to cut the mustard in the Premier League during his time with Manchester United after scoring just once in 16 top-flight appearances in England. Despite his poor record in Manchester, the Italian had been a prolific goalscorer at his prime but he is a shell of his former self these days and so Spurs are better of not going for him in the near future.
It won’t be easy for the North Londoners to cope with the loss of their star striker, but looking for a quick fix would not help Spurs’ cause in the long run. Thus, it makes more sense for Pochettino to keep hold of his prized assets by offering them lucrative new contracts as the current Tottenham squad has good chemistry and understanding which cannot be replaced easily.
The Tottenham boss has undoubtedly made the right call with regards to ending Spurs’ interest on the Italian forward.
