According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Liverpool have joined the race to secure the services of Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld from Club Brugge. The same report has also claimed that the Reds will face stiff competition from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and AC Milan in pursuit of the Jupiler Pro League sensation.
The 21-year-old has been enjoying a rich vein of form and has already put in some dazzling displays for Brugge during this campaign. He has made 15 appearances for the Belgian giants this term, scoring five goals while providing four assists across all competitions. At such a young age, Danjuma has also earned two international caps for the Netherlands national team and has one goal for his country to his name.
The Lagos born talent grew up playing football in Holland for PSV Eindhoven’s youth teams. He worked his way up the youth ranks of the Eredivisie outfit but failed to break into their first-team and was subsequently released by the club.
NEC Nijmegen gave him a chance to show what he is capable of in the second tier of Dutch football. Danjuma rose to prominence by scoring 14 goals and grabbing 17 assists in 46 matches for the Dutch side prior to sealing a switch to play for Club Brugge in Belgium last summer.
The Dutch youngster is blessed with incredible pace and can dribble past his marker to cause havoc in the final third. However, he is still quite raw and needs to be nurtured into a world-class talent over the next few years.
Jurgen Klopp has built a reputation for getting the best out of his young talents as evidenced by the recent rise of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson and Joe Gomez at Anfield. So the German manager will be an ideal candidate to get the best out of Danjuma if the winger ends up making a switch to the red half of Merseyside.
Liverpool are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table, four points clear of their nearest challengers, Manchester City. However, that hasn’t stopped them from building for the future. The acquisition of Danjuna will be a shrewd move for the Reds, so they should consider luring him to Anfield in the near future.
